A photo needs at least 300 dpi at the size it prints: a photo from a modern phone is usually enough for a full page, a small crop from a group shot often is not. Printedin Studio checks every image and stops the order until a lower-resolution one is replaced; we print in CMYK, so a few very bright screen colours come out slightly duller.
The single most important factor in print quality is image resolution. Always aim for at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) at the print size. Printedin Studio checks every image and will not let you order or export the design until any image below 300 DPI is replaced with a sharper one.
Smartphone cameras are more than capable of producing print-quality images. An iPhone or modern Android phone typically captures images at 12–50 megapixels, which is perfect for our products.
Be mindful of lighting. Natural, diffused light produces the best results. Avoid harsh flash photography, which can wash out faces and create unflattering shadows.
File format matters: JPEG is the best choice for photos (smaller file size, great quality). PNG is ideal for graphics, logos, or images with transparent backgrounds. Printedin Studio supports both.
Color accuracy: what you see on screen may differ slightly from print due to the difference between RGB (screen) and CMYK (print). Our printing process is calibrated to minimize these differences, but vibrant neon colors may appear slightly muted in print.
Questions and answers
How many pixels is 300 dpi?
Size in millimetres ÷ 25.4 × 300. A 20 × 20 cm page with 3 mm bleed on each side is 2433 × 2433 px; every size is listed on print specifications.
RGB or CMYK?
CMYK gives the closest result: PSO Coated v3 (FOGRA51) / GRACoL2013 for digital printing, ISO Coated v2 (FOGRA39) for large runs printed offset. RGB files are converted, and a few bright RGB colours have no printed equivalent.
How much bleed do I need?
3 mm on every outer edge, with text at least 5 mm inside the trim. The templates mark both.
Can I send a finished PDF instead?
Yes. A print-ready PDF made in your own software can be ordered through print-ready, and it is checked by hand before print.
