We prepare the design
We check the file against the specification, tell you about anything that will not print well, and build the design from it.
You order it
The finished design appears in your Printedin account. Sign in, check the preview, and order it through the normal checkout.
What to send
A file that matches these four points goes straight to press. Anything else, we tell you before you pay.
A PDF
One PDF for the whole job, pages in reading order, fonts embedded or converted to outlines.
3 mm bleed on every side
The standard most printers work to, so a file built to another printer's template usually fits. Extend the background to the bleed edge and keep anything important at least 5 mm inside the trim.
300 DPI at final size
Measured at the size it prints, not the size of the file. A 300 DPI image scaled to twice its width prints at 150.
A page count we produce
Board books are 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 or 26 pages. Your file needs exactly that many — we cannot add or drop a page to make it fit.
We open and check every file by hand before quoting. The automatic resolution warning in Printedin Studio cannot see inside an imported PDF, so this check is a person rather than a script — which is also why it takes a working day rather than a moment.
Good to know: your PDF goes to press as you made it. Text, lines and QR codes stay vectors and print sharp at any size; CMYK colours are kept as they are, and RGB and spot colours are converted to CMYK, because we print in four colours. Only what is added to a page afterwards in Printedin Studio, such as a barcode, is printed at 300 DPI.
